<h1>Agreement: ASUU Commences Strike On Monday</h1>

THE Southwest Zonal Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Friday, said that there was no going back on the one-week warning strike slated for Monday 26, September over non-implemetation of the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement.
The ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Professor Akin Ajisegiri, while addressing newsmen in Ibadan, foreclosed any plans to negotiate with the Federal Government on the implementation of the agreement.

He disclosed that ASUU had mobilised thousands of its members to down tools as a first step before a  full-blown strike would be embarked upon by the union.
Professor Ajisegiri, flanked by the chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Ademola Aremu, said the strike became imperative following the non-challant attitude being displayed by the Federal Government towards full implementation of the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement.
According to him, the present socio-economic situation in the country has vindicated their position that Nigeria is not progressing but retrogressing in the hands of selfish leadership.
Ajisegiri, who noted that many Nigerians were angry with the leadership of country due to high level of insecurity and insincerity of purpose, said that students writing examinations at various universities nationwide have called on the Federal Government to implement the two-year-old agreement to salvage their future.
Professor Ajisegiri maintained that ASUU cannot negotiate with the Federal Government again until the agreement, jointly signed in 2009, was fully implemented, adding that drastic measures must be taken to rescue the future of the country.
