BREAKING NEWS: FG agrees to N65, Labour says strike continues - Vanguardngr

ABUJA—A possible end to the ongoing nationwide strike action was in the offing last night after the Federal Government agreed to temporarily revert to the pre-New Year price of N65 per litre of petrol.

At a marathon meeting attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, organised labour, the leadership of the Senate and the representatives of state governors, labour was given two options for the reinstatement of the N65 per litre price of petrol. The first option is to revert to the pre-New Year price on the condition that the subsidy regime would be completely removed in April.

Nigerian Senate Bans Same Sex Marriage in Nigeria. Places 14 year Jail Term for Offenders

Nigeria’s senate passed a bill on Tuesday outlawing same-sex marriages in Africa’s most populous country as well as banning public displays of affection between homosexual couples.

Approval of the bill, which must still be voted on by the House of Representatives and signed by President Goodluck Jonathan, came after debate that saw one lawmaker go as far as to suggest that offenders be killed.
The bill spells out a 14-year jail term for anyone entering into same-sex marriage or civil union.

Jonathan Confirms Lamorde as New EFCC Boss

President Jonathan on Wednesday, approved the  appointment of new chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , Ibrahim Lamorde who takes over the leadership of the commission in acting capacity.

Lamorde’s appointment came after the President ordered  the sack of  Mrs Farida Waziri over

President Goodluck  Jonathan has removed the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri.

Her removal was contained in a three-paragraph statement signed by Jonathan’s spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati in Abuja on Wednesday morning.

Jonathan named Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as the Acting Chairman/Chief Executive of the lame duck commission.

Larmode was among the effective team of the former chairman of the commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu.

This is a serious one this time for Mrs Waziri whose tenure should be over by 2012.

Six Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

A six storey building in Maryland along Ikorodu Road, Lagos, collapsed at about 5:30pm yesterday, 27th October. It was gathered that people were asked to evacuate the building two hours before the unfortunate incident happened.
 A worker in one of the companies in the 5th floor of the building said he felt the building was shaking and raised alarm.

No one was inside when it collapsed and no casualty was recorded.
